early morning

SOFT DIFFUSED LIGHT ILLUMINATES THE ROAD AHEAd…

It’s early morning; twilight, we barely pack, besides some linen to keep snug at night + hit the road.

Headed for a makeshift cabin nestled between Blackwood River + the small rocky mountains of Balingup, WA. There is something about the three hour mark when venturing away from the city. Almost instantly your consumed by all that is the country… even if you’ve only driven a couple hours inland, or north or to the beach or the mountains, the air just feels different, blissfully clear and fragrant with the smell of earth.

You begin to spot little bakeries + curiosity stores filled with home made goods and treasures from yesteryear. By the end of your soiree in the country you are somehow covered in red dirt no matter how hard you’ve tried to keep clean. Nothing seems to matter though, you give in to the elements, serenity surrounds you and the calm of the country gently washes over.

Away from the city, the nights skies are a little different – vast, deeply black + abundant with stars.

When morning arrives, the air is crisp, the grassland is dewy + the river acts as a mirror for its surrounds. It’s time for a paddle…

Natures gradient appears on the surface of the water, through the eucalyptus + in the nebulous blue sky, setting the tone for the rest of the day.

NO MOBILE RECEPTION, NO NEIGHBOURS + A LITTLE CLOSE TO NOTHING IN WAY OF RESPONSIBILITY…
